Mansfield News Journal Asks Jordan A Question (he gets it wrong)
When asked by the Mansfield News Journal how many people in his district are uninsured, Jim Jordan didn’t know. But he did go on to say that one fourth to one third just don’t want it anyway. Of course he is wrong, here is a link to study results on Ohio’s uninsured http://statehealthfacts.org/profileind.jsp?cat=3&sub=40&rgn=37
Young people, he believes, don’t want insurance. Which is the complete opposite of my experience as a young person and any other young person I have ever met. You see, young people get pregnant a lot more than older people. Young people engage in riskier behavior than older people and need to be stitched up frequently. Young people get sick and need to go to the doctor too. Young people need regular checkups. Young men in their 20’s need to be checked regularly for testicular cancer, same as young women for cervical cancer. He evidently has no idea how much a yearly gyno visit costs for someone without insurance. Every young person I work with jumps at the chance to have medical benefits when they become eligible. Nobody likes being without it.
Yep, he is running unopposed. Plus he has well over 700K in campaign money to be spent. He has recieved donations from insurance and financial instutions, which explains quite a few of his votes.
See Sidney Daily News? It is possible to ask politicians questions!

OP, Jordan is correct, well almost. It’s closer to 50% of young people not wanting insurance. That is, if they get the choice between having the extra pay or insurance. Under 30 and single will take the extra pay every time. Think about it, if a 22 year old guy is offered health insurance for a $100 a month (His boss picking up the other $250) all he has to do, is add. Health insurance will cost him $1200 a year. He only went to the doctor once last year and it cost $50. His deductible would be higher than the $50. Young people don’t really need isurance. Paying for health care out of their pockets is cheaper… On a completely different subject, did you here Sherrod Brown bragging about getting $400 million dollars for high speed rail in Ohio? What a joke, $400 million won’t even pay for a feasibility study for high speed rail in Ohio and if somehow they managed to get a study done, it would come back as unfeasible!!!
No he isn’t correct. If you look at the table I linked to, it was nowhere near 1/4. And the majority of uninsured were low income, which doesn’t so much make it a choice. And it is never cheaper to pay out of pocket for any kind of medical.
If you know a doctor that only charges $50 for an office visit please post it here.
The time I needed insurance the most was when I was in my 20’s. That is when my children were born and needed frequent checkups, immunizations, bumps on the head stitched up etc. Younf people need inusrance. But that is beside the point since his statement was wrong.
And get on board for the high speed rail! Choo choo! I am so excited about this. I know it will take a long time, but once everything is done and we have all the midwest cities linked together with highspeed rail it will be so cool. Don’t poopoo the idea just because it appears to have come from a democrat. People protested the interstate highway system too when democrats pushed for it. Sometimes the other party does have good ideas. Hell it wasn’t even their idea to start with, they just recognized the merit in it.
If high speed rail would work in Ohio, we would have it already. Columbus, Cleveland and Cincinnati could probably use some kind of METRO system, but city to city high speed rail in Ohio is a joke.
Dr. Miller. Dr. Young.
Their chart is wrong, poor people already get free health care….. If you noticed, I said under 30 and single… If someone has kids and isn’t married, who’s fault is that? Mine? The Goverments? Personal responsibility is a wonderful thing.
I love this, the new high speed rail system, proposed for Ohio, will average about 40 mph. That’s hardly high speed, wouldn’t it be quicker to walk? Next, they are predicting 478,000 passengers a year, experts say this figure is grossly inflated. Even if it is correct, the rail system is predicted to lose $17 million dollars a year! One of the reasons the experts claimed the ridership predictions to be high, was because many users will die from old age, before they get to where the were going. This is just one more case where the average citizen, who has no use for rail transportation will be expected to pay for the handful of people that it helps.. Total BS… I, pledge to do everything within my power to stop Government from wasting the money of the American people.. It’s disgusting… It’s time for it to stop. Idiots can no longer be allowed to run our Country. Let them get real jobs and learn what it’s like to earn a living, leave us alone…
If you keep insisting that Jordan is correct, then please link me to statistics.
As far as high speed rail, yes, the passenger rail will start off slow because we don’t have to rail system to start off as high speed. THere are several states in the region that will have high speed before we do just because they haven’t neglected their rail systems. Nothing happens overnight.
And Ohio can’t sit by and not be part of this, they are planning on linking the entire midwest together. It will be transformative. Did you check out the post on here that linked to the Midwest Rail association? Check out what they are planning to do, it will be wonderful for this area.
And don’t forget, it took decades for the highway system to be even clost to what we have today and we are always working to improve it.
The only thing I will give them credit for, is they aren’t blowing 6 to 8 billion on a brand new rail system. 1.5 billion is plenty to waste on an absolutely useless experiment. At least when they finally give up on this after years of losing millions, we won’t have that huge initial price tag of a comepletly new new rail system.
By the way, I’m quoting national statistics, not just Mansfield.
I quoted Ohio statistics, not Mansfield statistics and it was form a legitamite source.
You still haven’t linked me to anything that baks up your claim of 50%.
And the rail system wont be a “faled experiment” since it is working in planty of other countries.
Just think about being able to take a shuttle to dayton, get on the train to Cincinnatie and take in a Bengals game and be able to drink all the beer you want, then come back the way you came. All for around $10 round trip. Think about kids being able to save money by commuting instead of living on campus. Not to mention maybe needed the services of teh Cleveland Clinic on a chronic basis and not havin to live in CLeveland. This is going to be a really good thing.
OP, were you blasted on your last entry? That was the worst typing I’ve seen since my freshman year! I’ll try and find you some links to back up my data ,I’ve read several articles on the subject. Though you’ll just dismiss it anyhow… It doesn’t fit your agenda. As far as trains working in Europe and working in Ohio, 2 totally different things.. It works in DC, because, at peak times, to travel 17 miles by car, can take 2 hours. The Metro takes 47 minutes, I know, I recently rode it.. Here the trip from Columbus to Cincinnati takes 1.5 hours, on a bad day, by car.. The High Speed rail system will take over 2 hours, that doesn’t take into account the time from your home to the station and the time from the station to your final destination.. This isn’t Europe, sorry, I hear they’re still taking immigrants, if you want to ride trains, giddyup… As far as the Bengals game, what shuttle? Now I have to drive to dayton, catch a train, see a game, catch another train, drive back to Sidney….. I have to work on Monday, maybe if they put showers on the train and I take a change of clothes, they can get me to work by 8:00 AM monday… All for $10, my ass. If there was a shuttle $8.00, train one way $10.00, train back $10.00, shuttle back $8.00. 7 hours travel time, $36.00 no thanks, I’ll drive… Hell, I don’t drink anyway…. I like your blog, I can cuss!!!
sigh* Did you even check out the Midwest Rail Association website? The three c’s being linked with stops in dayton is just the beginning. The eventually want a line that will go thorough Lima with a shuttle bus that goes from Dayton to Lima with stops in Sidney and Troy.
As far as most people who don’t have insurance don’t want it, that is just silly and it just pisses off the ones who don’t have it and truly want and need it.
And even if the statement were true (which it isn’t, I can provide more data for Nationwide studies, not just ohio) the amount of uninsured is just going to rise because employers aren’t going to be able to provide it forever. It was a really stupid and shortsighted thing to say because if they are successful in obstructing healthcare reform, people who continue to lose their benefits will be reminded that they just didn’t want it anyway. And they will be pissed off.
You know why employers can’t afford insurance anymore? The taxes they pay are so high (because of outrageous benefit packages government workers receive)all of this government BS is unsustainable. There will never be free health care from the Government, that is a pipe dream. The money to pay for it does not exist.
OP, are you married? I’m trying to figure you out… Why someone with your obvious distaste for someone sticking there nose into your business, yet you think Government is the answer to everything. That’s kind of an oxymoron…
Now if we could get the city to spring for a three digit race game….
3 digit race game? Not sure what you are talking about.
I am not even advocating free healthcare, I am advocating legislation regulating healthcare, insurance, and what they can charge and what they should cover. Healthcare is a necessity. The government wouldn’t let a corporation harness all the water rights in a region and make it unaffordable. This is the same thing. These kinds of things is why we have government, protecting us from economic tyranny is and should be their biggest concern right now.
And yes, I am married.
Hmmm… I’m puzzled?? Women who want the Government to take care of all the ills of the world are usually single. They substitute Government for a Husband…
A real Health Care Bill that does what you are asking for, was proposed by the Republicans some time ago. It doesn’t give the Government full control of your life, so the Democrats won’t even look at it. Want a copy?
By the way, housing is a necessity, don’t you agree, shouldn’t we have free housing, or at least have the Government regulate it? How about children, I feel mine were a necessity, lets have the Government regulate our kids, or air, breathing is a necessity, maybe the Goverment should tax how much we breathe… I better be careful, those idiots might read this and take it serious..
3 Digit race game, you didn’t read my post under “True Confessions” on Jan 31st? Good stuff….
I am truly sorry that you see women or the world even, in that way.
I am also sorry that you are so angry. I hope eventually that changes for you.
Good luck.
